FINAL SEASON WRAP-UP

Go Burger Manhattan—The GATORS are the CHAMPIONS. With as much deliberation, conversation and consternation (sorry Clyde) as the 2000 presidential election. We did not need a Supreme Court ruling but came damn near close to playing in the 106th street Target Parking Garage—don’t ask. With the unending rain and that got Noah busy and the unavailability of dry land to play on it was determined to heed the words of Porky Pig “THAAATS ALL FOLKS”. The GATORS did not back into anything though. Having the best record and winning two of three from their nemeses, and the number 2 seed, The SHARKS, gives all the cred The GATORS need to legitimize their CHAMPIONSHIP—so cue up some Freddy Mercury “BECAUSE WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS”. GAME 7 June 1 2013

Randall’s Island—With first place seeding on the line, Saturday’s game against The Sharks became even more difficult as The GATORS started dropping like YANKEES and the dugout even started looking like the tented M.A.S.H. 4077. With Isamu Sims already inactive and Gideon Glick down with a fever, Nolan Beatty was a gametime scratch with an undisclosed arm injury and Cameron Drew had to “gut” it out (all pun intended) with dehydration type symptoms. So with some last minute lineup juggling The GATORS turned in one of their better all-time performances with some solid pitching. But even more importantly got the bats off their shoulders to produce some big hits, several for extra bases, in a 12 hit barrage. Tacking on some runs late to take undisputed, sole position of first place and home field advantage throughout the playoffs. In a wacky game with lots of interesting plays and excitement that included some coaching philosophy of Mike Rizzo and Walter Matthau mixed in with some Dean Smith Four Corners Offense, as well as some offense directed at Coach that almost saw a Minna Wilson (Google it). GAMES 5 & 6 GATORS DoubleHeader Day May 11 2013

Randall’s Island—This past doubleheader Saturday was the day for The GATORS to take a stranglehold on the division and set themselves up as the number one seed going into the playoffs. That was the plan but it did not quite work out that way. The GATORS came out in their new MANNYVAN.com uniforms and the only thing that looked better than the Uniforms was The GATORS starting pitching. The uniforms and the pitching were not enough as the defense was better than mediocre in game one while substandard in game 2. The offense was even worse as The GATORS had a hard time getting their bats off their shoulders and looked at way too many strikes. After making several laps around the Sunken Meadow fields and with a condensed double-header schedule, The GATORS started against The Demons on field 19 wining that game 3-2. But dropped the second end of the twin bill in a shortened makeup game on field 22 against The SHARKS falling 4-0. TO READ MORE CLICK HERE

GAME 4 GATORS May 4 2013

Randall’s Island—For those of you that regularly follow this space, your support is appreciated, and don’t worry that this report has gone to a bi-monthly format. It just took a while to recap a game that only ranks higher than a tie. In a week that The GATORS backed into first place by forfeit against the previously unbeaten RAPTORS, who were done in by the ubiquitous mid-Saturday-May birthday party. It was also a week that saw the Coach catch not one but two baseballs at Yankee Stadium (that bat boy can really fool you with his underhand knuckler). Coach also participated in his High School alumni Hockey game playing with and against kids who could be his own. The Coach wore equipment older than 90% of his Alumni teammates but was still running at the end of a 5-0 loss to the current varsity. Coach did manage to fill out his stat line with 4 minutes of minor penalties to lead all participants. Video is available on request and on the FaceBook. So with the game officially a forfeit the GATORS loaned out some players to at least have a game and the results were not impressive but can be excused be cause of the lack of urgency. Using a complex and twisted formula of adding the runs scored by defecting GATORS and subtracting their good defensive plays, then dividing that number by Pi and adding the actual amount of RAPTORS that showed—The Gators actually one by 14 runs??! BUT The fundamental breakdowns will however not be excused! TO READ MORE CLICK HERE

GAME 3 GATORS April 27 2013

Randall’s IslandMr. Dirty Harry himself made an appearance at the DEMONS GATORS game today at Randalls Island. The fans were treated to The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, by The GATORS. So close to Manhattan Psychiatric Center the GATORS again witnessed the midseason return of Old Yeller as Coach went all Eddie Antar when The GATORS could not do the basics like throw and catch the ball..INSAAAANE!!! The Good: GATORS scored 14 runs. The Bad: 6 counted for The DEMONS. The UGLY: What is going on with that beard, Coach? Having already beaten The DEMONS in preseason The Gators were confident this matchup would go about the same. The DEMONS again led early. So with the men in white coats standing by with a size 48 long straight jacket, The GATORS did enough right, in the last inning to rally and defeat The DEMONS 8-6. TO READ MORE CLICK HERE

GAME 2 GATORS April 20 2013

Randall’s Island—Lot’s of excitement in a game between two of the leagues longest and most bitter rivals, The GATORS and The SHARKS. A game that will go far in deciding the number 1 seed in this division come playoff time. There was a wild scene, and I am not sure but The GATORS may have qualified for a CONCACAF slot and locked up a World Cup berth. The soccer (futbol!) style celebration was complete with uniform swap and pulsating Caribbean Music after a huge walkoff 2 RBI single from Jack Zgodny, just activated for today’s game. Zgodny was out of action since the start of the season with a minor head injury but after today’s performance coach is considering letting his daughter, Sydney Zgodny, drop some of his other players on their heads. GAME 1 GATORS April 13 2013

Randall’s Island—Panic was setting in as The League was trying to get fields ready for Saturday’s opening day. Emails and misinformation was circulating that games would be cancelled as doubt lingered across cyberspace. The Randall’s Island field hotline seemed like it was forwarding directly to Cable Customer Service—No help there. The GATORS were not going to be denied and descended on Randall’s with Rakes, Shovels, Earth Movers and whatever else they could borrow from the Hunter College girls softball team. Those girls can really landscape! But after what transpired in the GATORS opening day game maybe those emails were true and there were no games. If you close your eyes…the shower stops …the steam clears and its Bobby Ewing!! (No not Patrick Ewing)…I thought he was dead…So maybe we just forget everything that has happened..yea that works!!! But here are some of the highlights that may or may not have happened. GATORS just like cornerbacks…short memories…no really. TO READ MORE CLICK HERE

PRESEASON GATORS BASEBALL April 6 2013

Randall’s Island—On the first Saturday of April 2013 it was a beautiful day on Rand….in Temple?—TEMPLE??? What are we doing in Philly? No no not THAT Temple. Temple Temple. Like Shaaray Tefila—Shari Who??? Not Shari Who Shaaray Tefila, she’s cousins with Beth El…!!! OK enough of that. With The Coach’s niece turning 13 and becoming a man (or woman??) not sure how Reform Judaism handles it, Coach was brought up Conserva-cynical-odox. Coach handed the reigns to his trusted Coaches, Bench coach Mike Bacal and Pitching coach Eric Knuppel. But Coach had enough Bat Mitzvah and couldn’t pull a Hank Greenberg or maybe a Kevin Youkilis and blow his perfect attendance streak— the only thing he is perfect in (pitiful we know). So after a couple of minor traffic infractions, several major ones and an off road excursion shortcut, Coach arrived in the bottom of the first inning. Here is what he missed as well as the rest of The Wrap-Up. TO READ MORE CLICK HERE
